What We Ate: {Super Bowl Food}

Well we did it. We made all our junk finger foods to graze throughout the entire night of our exclusive Super Bowl party.

I pretty much just look for an excuse to make and eat finger foods. I love 'em.
Which is why I called this a Super Bowl party.

But then Mike says, "Let's be honest, this isn't a Super Bowl watching party, this is a Downton watching party."

Yes, my husband is a boy. With really great taste.

Have you heard of this show? Downton Abbey. {PBS}
Well we have quite the obsession in our home. It's actually a little alarming. But when we find something we like, we commit to it full force.

So we watched us some football, some commercials and attempted to stay awake during the half time show....but then 8:00 hits and we're suddenly alert and ready for what the party actually represented.

Either way, we ate, and ate to our hearts content. So much so that I think my body went into shock. My equilibrium was thrown for a loop and I spent the entire night with head and body aches.

And now your just dying to see what was on the menu, huh?

The Stuff:

2 sleeves saltines
2/3 cup canola oil
1/2 Tbsp red pepper flakes
1/2 Tbsp chili powder
1/2 packet dry ranch dressing mix
A pinch or two of black pepper

The Doing:

In a large ziploc bag, add all of the ingredients except for the crackers. Close up the bag and mix all the ingredients well by shaking. Add both sleeves of saltines and close the bag. Gently shake the bag until all crackers are coated with oil mixture. Let the bag rest for a couple of hours, gently shaking every 15 minutes or so.

The Stuff:
Italian Style Bread Crumbs
Flour
1 Egg
Sliced Pickles
Canola Oil

The Doing:

I didn't put many measurements for the ingredients because I didn't measure at all and I had no idea how many I was going to make when I started. But you can continue to add flour and bread crumbs when necessary. About an hour before frying, lay out pickle slices on a paper towel to drain some of the pickle juice from the pickle slices. Heat oil in pan on the stove. Coat each pickle slice in flour, then egg, then bread crumbs and fry until golden brown. Serve with ranch dressing!

Pinwheels
The Stuff:

10 inch flour tortillas
Chive and onion cream cheese
Turkey lunch meat

The Doing:

Spread the cream cheese over the surface of the tortilla. Throw on a turkey slice or two. Roll up tightly. Slice about an inch wide. {You can add all kinds of things to this...lettuce, avocado, cheese...}

Chocolate Chip Cookies
The Stuff:

3 cups flour
1 1/2 tsp baking soda
1 1/2 tsp salt
2 sticks unsalted butter, melted and cooled slightly
1 1/2 cups light brown sugar
1 cup sugar
3 eggs
1 1/2 tsp vanilla
1 pkg semi-sweet chocolate chips

The Doing:

Preheat oven to 375. Beat together butter and sugars in large bowl at high speed until pale and fluffy. Lightly beat 1 egg with a fork in a small bowl and add 1 3/4 tbsp of it plus 2 remaining whole eggs to butter mixture, beating with mixer until creamy. Beat in vanilla. Reduce to low speed and add flour, baking soda and salt until just blended. Add chocolate chips.

Bake 10 minutes.
{These are not as good as the other chocolate chip cookie recipe I posted here.....but they hold their own.}

The Stuff:

1/2 pound bacon {we used turkey bacon}
1 package of smokies
1 stick of butter
2 cups brown sugar

The Doing:

Preheat oven to 375. Cut bacon into thirds and wrap each smokies. Place in a single layer in baking dish. Melt the butter and add 1 cup of brown sugar and stir until mixed. Pour the butter and brown sugar over the smokies and bacon. Sprinkle remaining cup of brown sugar over the top. Bake for 20 minutes.

Happy Eating!
